Our wedding
|
Everything for my wedding was done by myself, my mom or a family member. My fiancee and I picked out the perfect wedding date, April 9th 2006, a year to the day of when we had started dating. We slaved over making the invititations, programs, and birdseed. I picked the perfect wedding dress, "pool" colored bridesmaids dresses and flowers, White Calla Lilies. The groom and groomsmen's suits were picked out, black dress shirts and pants with ties. The groomsmen wore "Pool" colored ties that matched the bridesmaids' dresses, while Future DH and our ring bearer wore white ties to match my dress and the flowergirl's dress. We had personalized "Wine" glasses, napkins and cake knife made by Oriential Trading.
Our wedding day started out without any hitches. Our bouquets were waiting at the church, done beautiful by my future DH's cousin-in-law. The church was decorated and waiting for our family and friends to fill the pews. Future DH and his groomsmen were outside eating BoJangles chicken off the hood of one of the guys car while us girls were inside getting our hair done. Everything was perfect. And then my matron of honor went to get dressed. It didn't fit!! Her dress was too tight! Thankfully my sister had lost weight and they were able to switch dresses. Things were back on track. My girls looked gorgeous, my dress was perfect, my hair was perfect, everything was perfect. The ceremony started and my step-dad escorted me down the aisle. Then it came time to light the unity candles. We picked up our taper candles and went to light the pillar candle. I thought the unity candle lit and we blew our candles out. The unity candle wasn't lit! We tried to hide it while my step-dad lit the candle with a lighter. After our vows, "When I said I Do" was suppose to play. Well the music messed up. It was playing too low and my grandad was motioning for the music to be turned up. My cousin, who was acting as DJ for the ceremony, misunderstood the handmovements and turned the music off instead of turning it up. Finally the music got straight and the rest of the ceremony went off perfectly. After the ceremony we were standing in the receiving line and my new Father-in-law brought to our attention that I had put my husband's wedding ring on the wrong hand!!! LOL Apparently everyone in the audience noticed that I had done it wrong except me, because more than one person came up to make sure we fixed it.
Off to the reception....My grandparents and a couple of my great aunts had fixed tons of delicious food. Our 3 tier all white wedding cake topped with a "B" cake topper sat in the middle of one of the tables. The kids had a blast running around taking pictures with disposable cameras that we had sitting on the tables. We ate and socialized with our guests. Everything went perfect.
We went to the mountains of NC for our honeymoon. We stayed in a condo in Lake Lure on a mountain. It was so beautiful. We climbed Chimney Rock, took a cruise around Lake Lure and saw where the water scene from the movie "Dirty Dancing" was filmed. We spent the day in Asheville shopping and walking around Downtown Asheville. We took one day to visit Biltmore Estate. Wow! Its such a gorgeous mansion! And the gardens are unreal! We were there during the "Festival of Flowers" and hundreds of tulips were blooming in one of the gardens. Our resort had a stream running through it. We spent alot of time in the evenings playing miniture golf and walking around the resort. We left early on a saturday morning to come home and spent most of the day shopping at the malls on the way home.
Here's a couple of pictures from the wedding.

Funny Wedding Story by Tammara
This "Funny Wedding Story" was written by a Bloggin' Buddy, Tammara, as part of a group challenge on http://www.linkandblogchallenge.com in honor of Valentine's Day and the Virtual Tea Party. Enjoy!
The funny thing that happened with my sisters wedding, which was in the late 1960's:
My mother (bless her heart), took on the daunting task of making the bridesmaids dresses, and they were gorgeous. My other sister and I were the bridesmaids for our oldest sisters wedding, so my mother was sewing the dresses for the two of us. The day before my oldest sisters wedding my mother had not yet finished the dresses!
Getting the zippers sewn into the back of the dresses was all that she had left to do, but she was overwhelmed by the task. Then the day of the wedding was here and still no zippers were sewn in, and with the wedding now only just hours away, there was not time to finish the dresses! The solution? My mother sewed up the back seam without putting in the zippers!
I will NEVER forget how difficult it was for her to get my sister and I into those bridesmaids dresses, and it was even more difficult getting back out of them!
I think the only saving grace was that I was only 11 or 12 so I was skinny enough, and my other sister being a few years older than I was skinny too.
Despite the fact the dresses lacked the zipper in the back, they were very beautiful, and it is a memory I'll never forget.
