For My Mothers
by Afrika Midnight Asha Abney

For My Mothers who love me
protected and guided me on my path
planted seeds
healed my wounds
taught me how to move pass the storms.

For My Mothers who elevate my soul
fill it with words of inspiration and light.

For My Mothers who carried me
lifted my body
transformed me from pearls to diamonds.

For My Mothers my love for you in eternally shining bright
like the sun.

A Woman, Tribute to Oni
by Afrika Midnight Asha Abney

A woman
full of class, love, power and grace
held her high with great pride
looking beyond the seas and oceans
spreading her wings high
being a great inspiration to her family and those who walked along her path
touching her soul
sending out healing prayers
removing all illness from her womb
she was
a woman
moved like an eagle
flew high soaring the paths of the water now, rejoicing
with the spirits
is a woman that will be missed by many.

The Greatest Gift
by Afrika Midnight Asha Abney

The Greatest Gift that I can ever ask for
is the gift of breathing and being alive
to see my family and continue to embrace the world
with my gifts and knowledge
flows like waves in the river
clear, vivid and powerful
like rhtyhms that moves through my soul
like sunrise and sunset
like the seasons and time that constantly changes.

The Greatest Gift that I can ever pray for
to continue to teach, preach and believe the words
of my ancestors and living in the legacy of my ancestors.

The Greatest Gift that I can ever possess is that
is inherited within my soul.

Happy Mother's Day

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY
by Afrika Midnight Asha Abney

A time to give thanks to Mother’s who have made a difference in your life or lives of others
watched you grow in mind, body and spirit
taught you the principles of living and growing
harvesting the seeds for enduring the battles of life
for it’s Mothers
angels, queens and freedom warriors!

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY
Let your light shine
Let your mind glide into the oceans free and divine
flowing freely into the rivers
moving gracefully to the sounds of love, peace and harmony
absorbing the sounds of hope and evolution
diving into the breeze
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY
a time to rejoice
honor Mother's not only on the second Sunday of the month of every year
but all the time
'cause it's Mothers who make a difference in many lives!
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

The Dancer

The Dancer
by Afrika Midnight Asha Abney
The dancer is inspired by the beauty and joy of being a dancer, specifically as traditional West African dancer.  The dancer plays a significant role in society and is able to touch many souls and spirits from all walks of life. The dancer is a healer, entertainer, performer and angel.
The dancer frequently is engaged in a dual relationship: one with creation of using arm, feet and hands; rhythms of the drums or other musical instruments; the other with the perceived audience. Allowing the audience to gather  its own perspective and to find its own story.

The dancer sways through the streets with arms open wide full of hope, harmony and grace
moving like thunder ligthining rhythms striking continuously in 360 degrees of strength, joy and miracles
with legs pounding
hand rotating
arms swirling
hips swaying to the beats within.

Keep The Earth
by Afrika Midnight Asha Abney

Keep the earth is a poem in honor of Earth Day.

Keep the earth
pure and clean
full of peace, joy and art
to feed the mind, body and soul
with rhythms to sooth the temples within
with clean air to breath
without chemicals and toxins to poison the brain cells and body
with water pure and healthy
without any lead to evaporate the spirit.

Keep the earth
safe and dry
for nation, community and all the walk
the earth.

Mother's Day

Mother’s Day
by Afrika Midnight Asha Abney

Mother’s Day is a special day to give thanks to all mothers past, present and future who have paved the way for such a significant day.

I think Mother’s Day is important to me because it gives me the opportunity to thank my mother and all of those who have aided in my upbringing and taught me the key elements to womanhood. I also thank all of my mother figure ancestors who have guided me in reaching my vision and goal.

Mother’s Day is celebrated every year on Sunday and it is the time that I say Happy Mother’s Day to my mother and those that have stood hand and hand by my mother!

In celebrating Mother’s Day, I would suggest the following gifts. Among them include
1) Write something of inspiration from the heart.
2)  Handmade note card, greeting card or painting.
3)  Bouquet of flowers
4)  Fruit basket
5) Inspirational or spiritual book.
6)  Bookmark

However, the best gift, you can ever give your Mother is something that is priceless which is LOVE!

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY

Importance of Networking
by Afrika Midnight Asha Abney

Networking is very important for many independent artists, authors, publishers, consultants or publishers. It gives you a chance to meet, greet and exchange ideas and even offer suggestions, advice or provide comments. One of the things that have been working very well for my career is the ability to network whether joining an online group, attending an event or arranging a meeting. The key element is to keep plugging at the various networking outlets until your goal has been achieved. Nevertheless, networking is the key element for success.

Can You Hear the Rhythms Calling?

Can You Hear the Rhythms Calling through the caves

screaming for you to rejoice with the rhythms of Mother Africa
dynamic and vivid like thunder
beautiful like rainbow
shining bright like the rays from the sun?

Can You Hear the Rhythms Calling
for you to  dance to the beats of drums

I am strong Black Woman
by Afrika Midnight Asha Abney

I am a strong Black Woman
standing strong
protecting my fruits
with open arms
guiding my fruits on the righteous path
full of light, peace and hope
ensuring nothing but the best
remaining proud of my upbringings
being loyal
being committed to maintaining my lifestyle and principles
preaching and teaching the values
of family and honor
to my fruits of my labor
walking and dancing into the wilderness
with rhythms that move around my spirit
standing strong
walking gracefully with a smile
being the Strong Woman
that I am
singing and praying nothing but for the best for me and my fruits
for harmony, positive vibes, peace and unity
for myself and my fruits
for I am a strong Black Woman
NOTHING CAN BREAK MY SPIRIT
no demons or harm can stand in my way
I am a strong Black Woman
standing on the mountain tops
listening to the voices of my ancestors and counsel
for I am a strong Black Woman
being a great role model for my fruits of my labor
for I am a strong Black Woman!!!

April is National Poetry Month
by Afrika Midnight Asha Abney

National Poetry Month is celebrated throughout the entire month of April.

National Poetry Month is very important to me because it gives me the opportunity to recognize poets of the past, present and future who made/make a difference in many lives through their poetic voice including Phyllis Wheatley, Paul Lawrence Dunbar, James Weldon Johnson, Langston Hughes, Gil Scott Heron, Sekou Sundiata, Gwendolyn Brooks, Collective Voices, Eloise Greenfield, Dr. Maya Angelou, E. Ethelbert Miller and many others. Furthermore, it gives me the opportunity to share my literary contribution to the world.

In recognizing this crucial month, I intend one sharing not only my literary contribution to the world, but also the contribution of others. In conclusion, I say to all the poets past, present and future.

HAPPY NATIONAL POETRY MONTH and the below poem entitled: I honor written by Afrika Midnight Asha Abney is for all of you!! Enjoy!

Poem

I Honor
Tribute to All Poets
by Afrika Midnight Asha Abney

I Honor
poets who pay tribute to the voices that speak in the wilderness
dancing secluded
praying and mediating
bowing heads
crossing arms and placing hands in the front of the souls
praising and honoring legendry voices
who stood against the war
marching against abuse
teaching about peace, love, art, culture and elements of joy and harmony
while playing rhythms to elevate the minds
mend the soul.

I Honor

If Dr.Rev.King Were Alive
by Afrika Midnight Asha Abney

If Dr.Rev.King Were Alive
would there so much hate, racism, brutality and abuse
spreading across the nation and Diaspora
would there children crying and dying before our eyes?

If Dr.Rev. King Were Alive
would there be puddles of dirt and odor spreading
through the streets
would there weapons of evil horrifying the nation and civilization
would there be social poverty?

If Dr.Rev. King Were Alive
would America be the “land of the free”
would be spreading colors of FREEDOM?

If Dr.Rev.King Were Alive

Why I Celebrate National Poetry Month
by Afrika Midnight Asha Abney

I celebrate National Poetry Month to honor world renowned poets across the globe and to pay homage to legendry poets who spoke eloquently about the need for freedom and social justice for all races and made it possible to new generation of poets to stand before the nation touching thousands, millions and billions of souls about messages of peace, triumph, struggle, joy, love, hope, poverty, racism, brutality, abuse or survival.

I celebrate National Poetry Month to reflect upon my roots and traditions as a means to enhance and increase my knowledge about the beauty and joy of celebrating
poetry the expression and power of the written and spoken word.

Man & Woman
by Afrika Midnight Asha Abney
The picture displayed is the first collage created out of the series and created by Afrika
Midnight Asha Abney.

This poem is about the dynamics in the relationship between Man & Woman.

Man & Woman is the power
between yin and yang
the fire and the earth
that merges together creating off springs
flowing and combining energies
bringing forth new life and beauty
the sun and the moon that rotates around the world
sharing messages and dancing naked in the wilderness
laughing, talking and singing sweet songs of freedom
looking into the temples of life
feeding the mind with words of hope
touching souls
bringing back the roots of the drum
protecting off springs
soothing the womb with sweet touch of peppermint
for there are dynamics in the relationship between
Man & Woman
look beyond the surface of the skin
go within the unity of Man & Woman

'cause I speak my mind
'cause I tell it like it is
'cause I take care my own
'cause I tell you about yourself
'cause I follow my principles for surviving the combats of life
'cause I've substance

Stop Judging Me!

What I Want for Christmas
by Afrika Midnight Asha Abney

I want for my mind, body and soul to be healed from all of the trials and tribulations that I have encountered and remove them.
I want to provide nothing but the best for myself and my daughter.
I want to be filled with rhythms that flows through and around me healing my mind, body and soul.
want to continue to educate my daughter and be a great role model and shed light
upon soul with books that fed the mind and elevate the spirit.

I want to be able to walk into a place without being abused!

I want to dance into the wilderness full of beauty and grace knowing that I have honored my priciples for living in this world!

I want to sing songs that none of sung.

I want to glide across the snow and dive into the ice.

I want to continue to be a strong woman for myself and daughter and know that I have survived life's experiences.
I want to be a good daughter to my parents.
I want to be a good sister to my brothers and sisters.
I want to be a good niece to my aunts and uncles.
I want to be a good grandaughter to my grandparents.

I want to be blessed with new opportunities.

Conversations
built upon exchanging words and receiving messages
some filled with triumph, sorrow and anxiety
others filled with rhythms transformed in peace, hope and faith
living in prayer
asking the creator for guidance to uplift you from the
trials, tribulations and lessons encountered just trying to make it
day by day
to make ends meet
to protect the fruits of labor
to cherish the family
to strive for freedom and riches of the time
knowing that everyone is human
some care
while others just get by without paying a dime and even caring
about the principles discussed in
conversations
still mending the soul
still staying focus
trying not to bet yourself
for the lessons learned
mistakes encountered
because some people's
conversations are cold as ice
while other's conversations are warm
as the Sun
beautiful like the Angel of Love
as we live by our means we must remember
the goodness that comes from the
conversations and throw away the bad ones
because simply some conversations are cheap
while other
conversations are rich like the land
gold like the treasures of family memories

Reflections of Life
by Afrika Midnight Asha Abney

This poem was inspired by a series of paintings which are entitled Reflections of Life.

Reflections of Life
built upon ups and downs
ins and outs of life
filled with truimph, love, hope, faith, anger, lessons, blessings, trials, tribulations, sorrow, unity

and prosperity
surrounded by sound of awe and wonderment
searching for a quest to conquer and run away from the
Reflections of Life
defeating the enemies
achieving the battles
facing the world with words of wisdom
messages of peace and grace
reading scriptures
sending out prayers
hoping to conquer the trials and tribulations
restoring the
Reflections of Life
through open heart
taking each one step at a time
remembering the symbols of
Reflections of Life

La Vertus de Afrique/ The Figures of Africa
exploring the relationship between color, shape, form and space
weaving symbols
bringing back the traditions and concepts
between rhythm and movement
through identifying the definition and true essence
of sculpting abstract figures resembling
