(The picture shown is entitled: Pensive and is an painting created on canvas by Prudence Bonds.)
What is your name?
My name is Prudence Bonds.
Tell me something about yourself.
I was born in Florida, raised in DC since infancy, and have been drawing or painting ever since. I am a mber of Black Artists of DC and Aesthetic Ascension.
What are your goals for your career?
My career goals as an artist are to expose my work and cultivate myself through my art.
Who are some of your favorite artists?
Just to name a few: Chèri Samba, Frida Kahlo, Gustav Klimt, Calvin Coleman, Judith Peck, George Yepes and Kehinde Wiley.
How long have you been involved arts?
I’ve been involved in art for the past seven years.
What inspired you to get involved in the arts?
The primary subject of my work is the beauty of women and people of color – that and an inherent desire to express who I am and where I belong has inspired me to be an artist.
How did you come up with your titles for your art?
It depends. Sometimes I work from references, photographs or previous paintings of mine, that are already titled, so I use that one. Sometimes the titles pop into my head days after the work is completed.
Do you have any projects that you are working on?
I do. Currently, I’m working on three projects: A series of album cover artwork; a series of paintings, and possibly mosaics, centered on the human mouth – to be completed for a forthcoming exhibit in fall; and a collection of paintings focusing on the annual Carnival events in Trinidad.
Where can the readers find more about you and your work or projects?
