Tell me something about yourself.
I'm a wife, mother, professional speaker, author, vocalist/songwriter, and Internet radio show host. I have a Bachelor's degree from Mount Mary College, and was a graphic designer before I went into full-time ministry.

What are your goals for your writing career?
To continue to publish Christian devotionals, inspirational books, and romance novels. I have an arsenal of nearly 20 books that have yet to see the light of day, not to mention new material I'm writing. So I'll be publishing for a long time!

Who are some of your favorite authors?
Michelle Stimpson,C.S. Lewis,  and Victoria Christopher Murray are some of my favorite authors.

How long have you been writing?
Literally since I was eight. I would write poems and songs, entire plays that I would cast, rehearse for, get props for, and put on in front of an auditorium full of kids before I was 12. I passed short stories around in study hall, and had poems and stories published in my high school and college magazines. I've always been very passionate about writing.

What are some of favorite books?
Just about anything by C.S. Lewis: "Mere Christianity"; "The Chronicles of Narnia" which I couldn't fully appreciate the symbolism of until I became an adult; "The Screwtape Letters"

"Just Enough Light for the Step I'm On" by Stormie Omartian

"Boaz Brown" by Michelle Stimpson

What genre(s) do you like reading the most?
Christian devotionals, inspirational books, and romance novels.

Excerpt
The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition (2000) defines the word psalmist as a writer of psalms; a psalm is described as a sacred song or hymn; and sacred means dedicated to, or set apart for, the worship of a deity. So a psalmist is a person who writes songs of praise to God.

I am a psalmist. If you are one as well, youll probably agree that its not really about you sitting down at a table and saying Im going to write a song. Its more that, as you drive to work, shower, or cook dinner, God gives you words and music. Sometimes He wakes you up in the middle of the night to give you a song. Singing is as natural to you as breathing. You find yourself singing without even thinking.

Its how you express yourself. When youre sad you sing. When youre happy you sing. When youre out of Gods will, its hard to sing. Music is ministry to you.

Ive known anointed praise dancers who dance in their living rooms to express their feelings to God. There are also gifted speakers and writers who turn their experiences into messages that bless the lives of countless other people. Likewise, psalmists mark the milestones of personal experience with songs. My pastor likens these examples to digging a well in the desert when you have made it through, so that others who come behind you can be nourished by what youve found.

Even if youre not a psalmist, you probably have benefited from them. Have you ever heard a song that took you to a place of worship? Brought tears to your eyes because the words echoed your pain, joy, confusion, or victory? Whether or not you can sing in key, you lift your hands and voice in worship when you hear those songs because they resonate in your spirit.

This started out as a blog about how special a hymn had become to me after going through an ordeal. My husband told me that it read like a devotional, something I should share with others for their private time. Something in my spirit cried Yes! when I heard his words. Songs have so much power to move us, convict us, strengthen us, heal us. What better way to help bring others to a place of worship and fellowship with our Father? A place where its just God and you. A place where He whispers secret things to you: His plans for your life, His never-ending love for you.

That place reminded me of a hymn, I Come to the Garden Alone by C. Austin Miles, so I chose that song as the title of this book. I pray that you will receive and be blessed by what God placed on my heart as I meditated on the words of these powerful songs.

Are there sacred songs that speak to your heart? Songs that draw your heart close to God? Make them a part of your own meditation. Go to the garden alone with Him, sing a love song to Him, and then listen. He has so much to say to you.

What inspired you to write your most recent book,I Come to the Garden Alone: Meditations from a Psalmist's Heart?
I wrote a blog about the importance of praise and worship in the life of the believer, and my husband commented that it read like a devotional that people could use in their quiet time. That resonated in my spirit, and a few months later, my book was finished!

After readers have read your most recent book,I Come to the Garden Alone: Meditations from a Psalmist's Heart, what you want them to walk away with?
A deeper love and respect for praise and worship songs as a tool to draw closer to God, express their love for Him, and find comfort and strength.

Do you have a specific target audience for your most recent book,I Come to the Garden Alone: Meditations from a Psalmist's Heart?
Anyone who wants to learn to get closer to God through praise and worship.

How did you come up with your title?
I wanted the devotional to be a tool the reader could take with them into their prayer closets for times of personal prayer, meditation, and reflection. The book is based on hymns, and to me, the hymn "I Come to the Garden Alone" perfectly described that goal.

Do you have any projects that you are working on?
Yes, I am a featured author in a devotional coming out in the winter, called "A Drink from the Well." and I'm nearing completion on a book about getting rid of baggage from the past so you can receive blessings for the present and future.
