Being a champion for diversity has been a part of her 21 year career in government contracting for two Big Four Accounting firms. Lisa currently serves on the supplier diversity task force at the largest public accounting firm and whole-heartedly lives a lifestyle of cultural awareness.

She believes that being exposed to traditions and experiences that are different from our own will teach us all to be more sensitive and understanding of people in general.

What is your name?
My name is Lisa sanford.
Tell me something about yourself?
I am a wife, mother of five, grandmother of one, work a full-time job and live a lifestyle of cultural awareness and preservation. Additionally, I am a speaker, passionate paper craft instructor, award winning scrapbook artist, and author of Ethnic Scrapbooking.

What are your goals for your writing career?
My goal is to leave a legacy of writing to future generations.  To be an inspiration to my descendants to write what’s on their heart, write to persuade, write to honor God, write to keep their values and beliefs in the forefront of their minds, write to preserve our culture, write to connect with our family history and write just for the sake of expression.

What inspired you to write your book,Ethnic Scrapbooking?
The lack of diversity in the scrapbook industry in both minority representations in the magazines and the scarcity of cultural specific products on the market inspired me to write Ethnic Scrapbooking.

How long have you been writing?
I started writing and preserving my memories when I was in second grade.

Tell us something about your book,Ethnic Scrapbooking.
My book can be used as a source of inspiration for paper crafters, genealogists, photographers, family historians even for those seeking ideas on how to be an engaged parent.  The examples and stories I present can be applied to the lives of just about everyone. The scrapbook pages in the book are just the visual representations of my philosophy, you do not need to be a scrapbooker to enjoy and benefit from the topics discussed in Ethnic Scrapbooking.

Ethnic Scrapbooking offers a different perspective on how you can look at your life, photographs, heritage, traditions and memories.

Who inspired you to create your book,Ethnic Scrapbooking?
My sister’s travel to Africa inspired me to write Ethnic Scrapbooking because of the struggle I endured to reflect the emotion and culture of the land in her photographs.

What was your experience in publishing your book,Ethnic Scrapbooking?
My experience in publishing, Ethnic Scrapbooking, was very challenging.  My initial printer went bankrupt while printing my book. Therefore caused me to re-group and locate another printer. Despite the challenges, I was able to publish my book.

Do you have a specific target audience for your book,Ethnic Scrapbooking?
Initially, my target audience was scrapbookers, but it’s for anyone who has a desire to preserve memories.

How did you come up with your title?
The title Ethnic Scrapbooking was derived from a class I created called, Ethnic Borders & Designs.

What is the significance of the title?
The significance of the title is that we all have an “ethnicity” and if you have ever taken a photograph or written down a memory, you in essence are a “scrapbooker”.

Do you have any projects that you are working on?
The new writing project that I am working on is with my father.  We are compiling his knowledge and research of the African-American families of his hometown community into a book.
