Tell us something about your most recent book, Is No Not Clear Enough For You.
Is No Not Clear Enough For You will be released by MAMM Productions on December 1, 2007.
At the heart of the book is sixteen year old Malaaka Green, she is growing up in a time of teen pregnancy and disease and she has decided for herself as a spiritual girl that she is not going to make choices that are not appropriate for her. She is surrounded by a supporting cast who applaud her, disagree with her and try to influence her but she is a young woman who dances to her own drummer.
Excerpt
“Jerald, get you hands off me!” Jerking away from him Malaaka was incensed. They had been enjoying the movie and she felt Jerald’s hands touching her, inappropriately.
“You got to be kidding me. You’re my girlfriend. I’ve been trying to get with the no sex thing, but if I can’t even touch you what’s a man supposed to do?” He was getting tired of Malaaka’s just say no policy. He knew many girls would just say yes, even her friend Kim.
“I’m not kidding with you. I won’t have you pawing on me like that. We’re in a movie theatre and you have no respect for me.”
“So, are you saying that if we weren’t in a movie theatre, I could touch you?”
“No I’m not, not like that. What I’m saying is I like you, a lot. But I’m a Christian girl and I’m not having sex with you. And I’m not going to do ‘near sex’ either. People kill me doing everything under the sun except having intercourse and saying they aren’t having sex. I will kiss you, and hold hands but we won’t do all of that other stuff. If you want or need that then I’m the wrong girlfriend.” Standing to his full height, he glared down at her.
“I guess you are. I’m out.” Shock marred Malaaka’s face as she watched Jerald walk from the theatre. After about five minutes she realized she didn’t have a way home. Tears choked her as she sat there. “He’s not going to manipulate me. I’m not going to do that. I’m not ready for that and if I have to be to have a boyfriend then I just won’t have one.”
What inspired you to write your most recent book, Is No Not Clear Enough For You?
I am a mentor and I know young people need to get clear messages of how to own themselves.
After readers have read your most book, what you want them to walk away with?
I want them to know that fun is not tied to promiscuity or illegal activities and that there are young spiritual kids, having a blast.
Do you have a specific target audience for your most recent book, Is No Not Clear Enough For You?

Who are some of your favorite authors?
Some of my favorite authors include Maya Angelou, Alex Haley, Langston Hughes, Deepak Choprah, Alice Walker, Al Gore, The Last Poets…and others.
What are your goals for your writing career?
I hope to one day be able to provide a major educational service and retreat where my clients and readers can go to learn and de-stress. It would also consist of a major media center (recording studio and high tech center) suitable for all types of creative activities --such as: Art exhibits, poetry slams, or conferences. It would accommodate groups of students or corporate executives who want to hold seminars or use my materials.
My books are already in print and being sold on the Internet, via bookstores, and on various websites. My goals are extensive, for example in addition to creating a mass marketing campaign, I hope to be able to expand into other arenas of publishing, perhaps with major textbook companies or into educational TV shows. Most authors want to attain the honor of a “best seller” –and I too
reach for that.
How long have you been writing?
I began writing at a very young age which began while I was in junior high school.
What are some of favorite books?
Some of my favorite books include

What genre to do like reading the most?
Black History and Cultural Diversity
Nature and Ecology topics – natural healing and herbs (etc.)
Success secrets, making money, self-improvement
Tell us something about your most recent book, IMPLOSION: “Gone with the Weather”.

IMPLOSION: “Gone with the Weather”is a book that developed after the horrible incidents surrounding Hurricane Katrina and other similar natural disasters.
What inspired you to write your most recent book,IMPLOSION: “Gone with the Weather”?
The extensive, widespread fires, Wild Weather, Hurricane Katrina, Kanye West, Al Gore and people like him who have been warning us about “global warming” --- and resulting climate disasters. Ancient prophecies, predictions from people like Nostadamus….and similar information inspired me to compose a book on this compelling issue --- problems that are effecting everyone.
AS I SEE IT….unfortunately, most people tend to view the Earth and Nature as--“…a big rock that we live on and can just do anything to without consequences….”
Instead of revering the wonderful healing gifts (herbs, foods, oils, plants, oxygen, water, sunshine--and all the nutrients that we need -- etc.) that come from nature, society has only set forth to conquer it. We have become drug-laden plastic people. And we wonder why so many are sick. We have also made the EARTH sick...she now has a fever!
After readers have read your most book, what you want them to walk away with?
More knowledge, inspiration, a sense of hope, enjoyment, desire to learn more…
THE YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE "Super Sistah"--- and so do many adults.
Do you have a specific target audience for your most recent book,IMPLOSION: “Gone with the Weather”?
General public --- as this problem effects everyone. I focus a lot on teachers and students…improving teaching and training methods.
How did you come up with your title?
Whenever I write a book or poem – or prepare a plan…or do compose anything…I gather as much information as possible and outline what I have. Then I try to ascertain what the most impressive theme is that can be found…and I then get a simple “catchy” phrase. I get a MENTAL PICTURE and then the TITLE comes to me.
Who designed your cover?
I designed the covers and most of the art or selected what would be used.
Do you have any projects that you are working on?
Yes
Where can the readers find more about you and your work or projects?
Readers can visit my website at http://www.authorsden.com/melviafmiller

FOREST FIRE
The fire comes leaping through the woods
Burning all of Nature's goods.
It jumps and sways from side to side,
Using each tree for its scorching ride.
It sputters left and sputters right--
Killing life with greedy delight.
It plays with leaves and very tall pines,
Breaking in places, then it combines.
The trip is ended, the forest is gone.
It all started just before dawn.
So many were happy while they lived here;
Now, they're all hiding in fear.
It only takes a single match..
Where's the next forest a fire can catch?

The significance of the title is that we all have an “ethnicity” and if you have ever taken a photograph or written down a memory, you in essence are a “scrapbooker”.
Do you have any projects that you are working on?
The new writing project that I am working on is with my father. We are compiling his knowledge and research of the African-American families of his hometown community into a book.

Excerpt
The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition (2000) defines the word psalmist as a writer of psalms; a psalm is described as a sacred song or hymn; and sacred means dedicated to, or set apart for, the worship of a deity. So a psalmist is a person who writes songs of praise to God.
I am a psalmist. If you are one as well, youll probably agree that its not really about you sitting down at a table and saying Im going to write a song. Its more that, as you drive to work, shower, or cook dinner, God gives you words and music. Sometimes He wakes you up in the middle of the night to give you a song. Singing is as natural to you as breathing. You find yourself singing without even thinking.
Its how you express yourself. When youre sad you sing. When youre happy you sing. When youre out of Gods will, its hard to sing. Music is ministry to you.
Ive known anointed praise dancers who dance in their living rooms to express their feelings to God. There are also gifted speakers and writers who turn their experiences into messages that bless the lives of countless other people. Likewise, psalmists mark the milestones of personal experience with songs. My pastor likens these examples to digging a well in the desert when you have made it through, so that others who come behind you can be nourished by what youve found.
Even if youre not a psalmist, you probably have benefited from them. Have you ever heard a song that took you to a place of worship? Brought tears to your eyes because the words echoed your pain, joy, confusion, or victory? Whether or not you can sing in key, you lift your hands and voice in worship when you hear those songs because they resonate in your spirit.
This started out as a blog about how special a hymn had become to me after going through an ordeal. My husband told me that it read like a devotional, something I should share with others for their private time. Something in my spirit cried Yes! when I heard his words. Songs have so much power to move us, convict us, strengthen us, heal us. What better way to help bring others to a place of worship and fellowship with our Father? A place where its just God and you. A place where He whispers secret things to you: His plans for your life, His never-ending love for you.
That place reminded me of a hymn, I Come to the Garden Alone by C. Austin Miles, so I chose that song as the title of this book. I pray that you will receive and be blessed by what God placed on my heart as I meditated on the words of these powerful songs.
Are there sacred songs that speak to your heart? Songs that draw your heart close to God? Make them a part of your own meditation. Go to the garden alone with Him, sing a love song to Him, and then listen. He has so much to say to you.
What inspired you to write your most recent book,I Come to the Garden Alone: Meditations from a Psalmist's Heart?
I wrote a blog about the importance of praise and worship in the life of the believer, and my husband commented that it read like a devotional that people could use in their quiet time. That resonated in my spirit, and a few months later, my book was finished!
After readers have read your most recent book,I Come to the Garden Alone: Meditations from a Psalmist's Heart, what you want them to walk away with?
A deeper love and respect for praise and worship songs as a tool to draw closer to God, express their love for Him, and find comfort and strength.
Do you have a specific target audience for your most recent book,I Come to the Garden Alone: Meditations from a Psalmist's Heart?
Anyone who wants to learn to get closer to God through praise and worship.
How did you come up with your title?
I wanted the devotional to be a tool the reader could take with them into their prayer closets for times of personal prayer, meditation, and reflection. The book is based on hymns, and to me, the hymn "I Come to the Garden Alone" perfectly described that goal.
Do you have any projects that you are working on?
Yes, I am a featured author in a devotional coming out in the winter, called "A Drink from the Well." and I'm nearing completion on a book about getting rid of baggage from the past so you can receive blessings for the present and future.
Where can the readers find more about you and your work or projects?
Readers can visit my website at www.abbyphillips.com
Thank you for the opportunity.

Tell us something about your most recent book.
What If it Feels Good? was released on April 10, 2007 and was published by Taylor Nicole Publishing. It is a story is about a homeless teen who finds his wealthy father via a series of extraordinary events. It is a story of love, betrayal, and revenge, bonds are tested, friendships are challenged, dark secrets surface and an epic romance blossoms amidst a media circus.
What inspired you to write your most recent book,What If It Feels Good??
When I was twelve years old, I had a crush on my older sister’s adult boyfriend. My imagination took it from there.
After readers have read your most recent book, What If It Feels Good?, what do you want them to walk away with?
I want it to be really difficult to walk away…to close that last page; but once they do, I want them to feel a lasting impression from the characters and how the same problem presents different issues for them all. I want them to leave with a bit more understanding, realizing that love is a powerful emotion. Sometimes we cannot control how it drives us or who it drives us toward.
Do you have a specific target audience for your most recent book,What If It Feels Good??
Adult women ages 25 and up, and anyone that empathizes with the obstacles presented in an alternative lifestyle, will enjoy this book.
How did you come up with your title?
Many of us have grown up hearing our mothers say, “if feels bad, it probably is bad,” for lack of a better way to warn children of potential predators. This got me thinking. Unfortunately, some abuse may not feel bad, but it is still abuse. Parents need to change the way we describe abuse to our children, in essence: What if it feels good?
Who designed your cover?

I want the reader to use my poetry in a positive way to improve their lives and better themselves as human beings from the things that I learn and experience through my own life.At the beginning of the book,I dedicate my work to a special friend of mine by the name of Raymond Broadnax. He has been my childhood barber for a long time(15 years).Late last year,I started showing him my poetry. He was amazed by the way that I write that he asked me to help him out with his poems. It was his confidence and support in my talent that made the book possible.

Excerpt from The Write House
"Different Colors,Same Taste"
The world is like a big box of ice cream.
It consist of flavors to satisfy anyone's taste.
Each of them is sweet and special.
They should not go to waste.
My heart is a bowl fill with acceptance.
Loving each flavor that comes in it.
If you combine all of them into one.
You'll get a rainbow of the human spirit.
Chocolate is the flavor that I'm proud of.
No need to put sprinkles or whip cream on me.
Everyone is suppose to love one another without hatred.
The way that it is meant to be.
At the end of the day,we are all flavors of unity.
One should not discriminate over the other.
In the mirror we see the same reflection.
As being true sisters and brothers.
How did you come up with the title of the book, The Write House?
For a few years now,I have kept a notebook fill with poems that I had written. One day I was trying to figure out what the name of my book should be.Then I came up with the idea of calling my book "The Write House".The name of the book was actually the title to a poem that I did before in my notebook.I started to use the title as the name of the book and use the lyrics in the poem as my introduction.

Introduction by Michael J. Burt
A Cappella
As you can see…
there is no band behind me,
no background vocalist to assist or
a guitar specialist to help paint my masterpiece,
just me and this medium to express.
No elaborate costumes or wardrobe changes,
no set alterations, just my obligation.
Just me and my shirt that a T,
some regular jeans, and shoes on my feet.
Not because my funds are insufficient
but because my words are brilliant
or at least that’s what they tell me.
So there is no reason to focus on my appearance
just my words, and my deliverance.
I believe, all I need is me
‘Cause my soul tells how I feel…
No sound comes in between
the words and the voice heard
so you can learn,
can’t you see?
My words, they’re a reflection of me…
What was your experience in publishing the anthology,Step Up to the Mic: A Poetic Explosion?
It was a great experience working with Jessica as it always is. I had fun reading all of the poetry that was submitted for consideration. I had work from 60 poets and had the tough task of narrowing it down to 20 poets. So it was hectic at times but very rewarding now that is published and available.
