Rubbish needles, Caliometry and season's greetings

Finished my Calorimetry last night (although I was up till the small hours of the morning!). I was trying to use up the Rowan Kid Classic (in Frilly) that has been in my stash for a while. I thought I wouldn't have enough to make it with the recommended needles in the pattern, so I used 4mm instead. It worked out quite well because I think if it had been any bigger I wouldn't wear it.
However, I now have a quarter of a ball left that I don't know what to do with. What do people do with the ends left over? I hate the idea of throwing them away, but it's crazy to pretend that you could make anything out of them. Add to that the fact that as soon as you throw it out, you'll suddenly have a need for a small quantity of whatever it is that you just got rid of.... *sigh*
Anyway, I also wanted to let you know about the needles that I was using. They're a brand called 'Susanne's', and I thought they could be a good substitute for Lantern Moon's gorgeous ebony needles, seeing as how they were a bit cheaper, but I've got to say I'm not loving them. I bought several pairs of straights in one go and most of the needles seem to have slight defects in them. I don't think the retailer is to blame as the problems aren't really anything that I believe they could have caused.
One of the ebony sets is a bit bent at the end, and one of the rosewood ones has a deep scratch which only appeared once I tried to move stitches along the needle, which means the yarn keeps snagging on it.
Anyway, my point is Lantern Moon - Good, Susanne's - Bad (in my experience anyway).
Oh and seeing as how it's Christmas Eve, I wish you all a great day tomorrow (and hope you all get Lantern Moon's!)
thanks for reading!
