“Bioethanol is one of several solutions for a more sustainable future,” says Anna Langenius, Manager for BioPower at Saab. “The infrastructure is in place, the technology is established and we consider it to be the best solution available today to slow down the increase of CO2 in the atmosphere.”

The difference between these two types of vehicle can be distinguished in the area of practicality and fun driving experience. Sedans are more likely to be practical, while coupes provide a perky and exciting driving experience. If sedans are reasonable clothing, coupes are the hot stuff or the latest fad. Sedans are family vehicles, coupes are built for two, with, sometimes, a small rear seat for short-term use.

ConstantlyFord Motor Company is among the world’s largest automakers and there’s no question about that. But did you know that Ford also has the biggest and the most compassionate heart? Oh yeah, definitely that is a fact! The company is a dedicated supporter of cancer patients from the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute. Just last week, Ford Motor Company Fund has offered an exceptional contribution to the institution by helping in upgrading its nurse paging system. According to the Auto Channel, Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, headed by their vice president of development for the Institute, Nick Karmanos, were in so much delight and they were appreciative of the improvements done by the automaker. "As Lead Sponsor for our 26th Annual Dinner May 17, Ford Motor Company Fund will help our nurses provide the best possible care and treatment to cancer patients. Ford's sponsorship, as well as its ongoing commitment to cancer prevention, detection, treatment and research, is a tremendous force in our fight against cancer," says Karmanos. "We are pleased to continue Ford's legacy of partnering with the Karmanos Cancer Institute in helping to provide needed care for cancer patients and their families. It's through partnerships like this that we're able to help make our communities better places to work and live," says Jim Vella, the president of Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services. 03:08 - Wednesday, February 6, 2008Ford's Small CarWe have always envisioned Ford to be the producer of large vehicles like the Ford F-150. Well, that's actually true. But I think that the automaker is changing its philosophy and may be going small.
By that, I mean developing small cars for consumers in the United States and all over the world. The Dearborn automaker has been overtaken already by Toyota for the second spot in the United States auto market in terms of sales. And the Japanese automaker has done that by manufacturing small cars which are fuel efficient and reliable. These small vehicles have been attractive to American consumers thus sales of Toyota is on the rise. Ford though is not giving up without a fight. After all, the automaker is also a leader in small car albeit in Europe. But the fact that they have small cars which can compete with European cars is really impressive. And now, they are bringing that expertise in the United States with the Verve. Derrick Kuzak, Ford’s group vice president for Global Product Development had this to say about the development of the Ford Verve concept: "We're looking at every aspect of what’s defined Ford as a small-car leader in Europe and working to build on this expertise in driving dynamics and design across a global family of Ford cars that are as exciting to drive as they are to look at." "The Verve concept family provides a vision for a new world standard for quality, design and comfort in the small car segment," he added. "These concepts demonstrate how leveraging our global strengths can yield attractive benefits for our customers in markets around the world." Hopefully though, Ford would hurry up to make the Ford Verve available in the market. 03:07 - Tuesday, January 29, 2008Top 20 07-08 SUVs That Get 20+ MPG!![]() Check out the SUV rankings with their corresponding MPGs courtesy of the Auto Channel:
02:28 - Tuesday, January 22, 2008Alfa Romeo JuniorAfter all the rumors, speculations and various artist renderings of what the new Alfa Junior would look like, the Italian Autobloggers has finally presented two images of the new Alfa Romeo Junior. Unfortunately, the front shot failed to reveal anything but the rear shot has provided a glimpse of the bumper as well as the oval shaped exhaust tips.
The new Alfa Romeo Junior was voted to be called Furiosa by internet users through an Alfa-organized survey. The name was later on axed by Alfa execs after the results arrived. 01:57 - Thursday, January 10, 2008Mr. Bean to Drive a Morgan AeromaxRowan Atkinson more popularly known as the character Mr. Bean has been reported changing his yellow Austin MINI with Morgan Aeromax. This new car which is one of the world’s fastest cars was Mr. Bean’s New Year’s gift to himself. The car cost £110,000.
The limited edition Aeromax can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and reached a top speed of 274 km/h. Powered by the V8 4398 cc, 333 Bhp@6100 rpm, 450 Nm@3600 rpm. The aluminum chassis has a Batmobile-style gull-wing boot and fitted with 20-inch alloy wheels. Only 100 of the exclusive Morgan Aeromax will be sold and Mr. Bean has put down a £25,000 deposit for one of these rare beauties. Mr. Bean might look stupid and funny on TV and on the movies but believe me the guy is very smart when it comes to choosing cars. He has a collection of luxury cars that includes a number of Aston Martins and a £650,000 McLaren F1 which he by the way wrecked in 1999. Well what do you expect from the guy who is famous for bad luck? (LOL). Mr. Beans or should I say Mr. Atkinson’s very recent car accident happened two days before Christmas, he crushed into a Volkswagen Jetta while reversing from a parking meter in Aspen, Colorado. 01:24 - Thursday, January 10, 2008A4 Selling Like Hotcakes in EuropeVolkswagen has something to look forward for this year, 2008 especially with its newly launched A4. The A4 has generated 33,000 orders before its official launching in the first European countries. It’s more than what the company has hoped for.
The A4 is currently available in Germany, Switzerland, Luxemburg, Italy, Belgium, and the Netherlands. It will soon be offered in France and Spain then to the rest of the remaining European countries. In United Kingdom which is the company’s strongest export market the selling of the A4 will start on February 2008. The A4 received major awards such as the “Golden Steering Wheel” given by Bild am Sonntag Newspaper, and the Auto Trophy 2007 awarded by the Auto Zeitung magazine. And then on the individual test conducted by the Auto Motor und Sport, the A4 has obtained the top five star rating. 12:43 - Thursday, January 10, 2008Russia Getting Influx of Investments from Car Companies For 2007 Russian foreign investments derived from car companies have grown exceeding cash flow of $1.8 billion that is according to Russian economics ministry. 13 investment agreements were signed under production contracts for 20907 and among those foreign companies are PSA/Peugeot-Citroen, hyundai, Suzuki, Severstal-Avto, Nissan and Toyota. The future growth in the Russian market is seen as the motivating factor for the influx of investments.
In other news, Volkswagen Europe’s largest automaker has opened last November 2007 a car assembly plant in Kaluga Region located at 180 km southwest of Moscow. Similarly, Toyota has opened a plant near St. Petersburg to produce the Camry. This move was late on followed by Mitsubishi Motors that has signed a contract with Russia’s economic ministry in the last week of 2007. it will invest $200 million in a car factory in the Kaluga Region. The said factory will open in 2010 and will produce vehicles in the midsize segment and will preset around 60 percent of all the sales in the Russian market. However according to the PSA it might open up its Kaluga assembly plant in Russia to other car companies in order to lessen costs. PSA and Mitsubishi have agreed for tie-up under which the Japanese automaker will build 4x4 vehicles such as the C-Crosser and Peugeot 4007. 03:44 - Wednesday, January 9, 2008New Fiat 500’s British Airways London Eye LaunchingThe Fiat Group Automobiles UK Ltd will soon launch its new Fiat 500 which was recently voted as car of the Year 2008 on January 21 at 8:00pm with a flight on the British Airways’ London Eye. The new Benz C-series to be offered in China will be consists of the C200K and C280 editions. The prices will range between 398,000 yuan ($53,467) and 497,000 yuan ($66,767). For the first eleven months of this year, Mercedes-Benz sales have increase by 45 percent to 26,860 units in Great China including Macau and Hong Kong. Likewise, Benz S-series sales grew by 39 percent year on year to 9,100 units in Chinese mainland market. 11:29 - Tuesday, January 1, 2008Nissan’s Intelligent Radar-Based Cruise Control System with the On-Board Navigation SystemNissan has recently launched an intelligent radar-based cruise control system integrated with the on-board navigation system that utilizes route information. This results to an Intelligent Cruise Control system that adjusts the vehicle speed in anticipation of an approaching curve. Then as the vehicle gets out of the curve into the straight road the system goes back to its original speed.
Another new feature is the Distance Control Assist that alerts the driver to slow down regardless of whether the accelerator is engaged while still enabling for the accelerator pedal to be push back alerting the driver to release the accelerator. In more serious situations, the system will also alert the driver by sending messages or audio warnings, urging the driver to apply the brakes. The Intelligent Cruise Control system plus Distance Control Assist may be controlled separately through the steering wheel controls. The system has also the ability to operate in full speed range starting at zero as compared to previous intelligent radar based systems that have speed limitations in the range of 5 to 100km/h. With both the Distance Control Assist and Intelligent Cruise Control installed, the driver is given the option to select either function setting, using a wheel-mounted switch based on the different driving conditions. 03:47 - Monday, December 17, 2007Santa’s Hot Rides for this Year![]() 1) 1930 Duesenberg Model J Dual Cowl Phaeton -- The Sophisticated Santa Almost as spacious as Santa's sleigh, the Model J Dual Cowl Phaeton is one of America's most elegant automobiles, thanks in part to its superb engineering and plush interior. The Phaeton also offers a convertible top so that Santa may appreciate the many climates he's bound to visit. Santa will appreciate owning a luxurious Duesenberg when he's feeling like a sophisticated day out. 2) 1941 Chrysler Thunderbolt Concept -- The Modern Santa Santa will have the chance to put his hands on this one-of-a-kind car at RM Auctions' "Vintage Motor Cars in Arizona" event in January 2008. He's likely had his eye on this innovative gem for a while, with its sleek roadster shape hiding concealed headlights and a retractable metal hardtop. This streamlined shape is perfect for cutting through blinding snowstorms and Northern winds. 3) 1959 Ferrari 250GT California Spyder -- The Sporty Santa Santa will have to attend RM's Leggenda e Passione event in Maranello, Italy in May 2008 to put his hands on this legendary machine. A car for a man who loves his toys, as of course Santa would, the 250GT California Spyder is one of the most valuable of all road-going Ferraris, with less than 100 produced between 1957 and 1962. Santa could give Rudolph a run for his money driving this open sportster while enjoying a more tropical climate on his days off. 4) 1922 American LaFrance Type 48 Triple Combination Pumper -- The Practical Santa Recently sold at auction in Hershey, Pa., this massive fire engine commanded $41,250 USD, and RM Auctions thinks that Santa would have felt right at home aboard its fire-engine-red body. Santa may find this a great addition to his garage so he may relive the parade experience all year long. 5) 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz ("The Raindrop Car") - The Classic Santa Santa would appreciate the unique convertible feature of this car, a "raindrop feature" that will activate the car's convertible top and raise the electric windows upon sensing a few drops of rain, protecting his gift booty while away. The Raindrop Car recently sold at auction for $330,000 USD. 02:20 - Saturday, December 15, 2007Mercedes-Benz Donates New PopemobileMercedes-Benz has recently presented a G-class Mercedes-Benz popemobile for the use of Pope Benedict XVI. The new popemobile was designed according to the specifications provided by the Vatican.
For years auto manufacturers have donated vehicles for the Pope’s use way back in 1930. The Vatican has designated a small museum of all the cars used by the Popes dating back to Pius XI. The currently used popemobile by Pope Benedict was produced by Volvo and will soon be replaced by Mercedes. Automakers donate vehicles to the pontiff because of the public-relations benefits that they derived from it. The Pope is a recognized figure in the world and of course being associated with such a highly dignified personality can help in promoting an automaker’s name. Mercedes-Benz names its new popemobile “Vaticanmystic” and gave it a custom-designed hue that is exclusive for the Pontiff. 12:16 - Saturday, December 15, 2007AAA Colorado Chooses GreenRoad Safety CenterAAA Colorado has recently chosen GreenRoad Safety Center in a study that will help improve teen deriver safety, according to GreenRoad Technologies Inc. For the six month study, AAA Colorado will be monitoring 200 AAA Colorado member teen drivers’ cars to identify as well as reduce risky driving behaviors.
AAA Colorado will be providing a safety tool called the Safety Center that would show how teens are driving and will keep track on where they are driving. The Safety Center functions via a sensor in the car that detects driver skill and safety in five major categories including speed, braking, acceleration, lane-handling, and turning. The sensor works by automatically generating instantaneous safety analysis while driving allowing the driver to adjust his driving behaviors. Moreover, each trip may be viewed on the web showing the details of the overall safety level as well as the detailed information about areas that calls for improvement. Each driver will also received a safety rating ranging from green (safe), yellow (moderate), and red (aggressive). According to Eric Escudero, AAA spokesperson: "AAA Colorado offers programs to ensure that new teen drivers are operating their vehicles as safely as possible. Through our partnership with GreenRoad, we hope to change teen driving behavior and ultimately reduce teen road accidents and fatalities." Dan Steer, GreenRoad CEO also said: "Statistics show that car accidents are the leading cause of deaths for teens in the United States. Now technology is making it possible for us to see risky driving behavior and change it before an accident occurs. GreenRoad's mission, in partnership with AAA, is to help teens and parents take action that can ultimately save lives." 03:36 - Friday, December 14, 20072007’s best cars features![]() The Top 10 new car features according to Cars.com include: 1. Lane Departure Prevention Where you can find it: Infiniti EX35 Infiniti's Lane Departure Prevention builds on conventional lane-departure warning systems, which detect lane markings and sound a chime if you drift astray. LDP goes one step further by gently applying the brakes to certain wheels to nudge you back on course. Hit the turn signal or steer the wheel slightly, and the system deactivates. 2. Scratch Shield Paint Where you can find it: Infiniti EX35 The crusade for city-friendly transportation began years ago with plastic bumpers and dent-resistant doors. It reaches new heights with Infiniti's Scratch Shield paint. On the EX35, Scratch Shield combines a highly elastic resin with the clearcoat finish. The resulting surface is said to maintain a glossy appearance over the years, and it can actually undo minor damage in the course of a few days. 3. Around View Monitor Where you can find it: Infiniti EX35 Let's be clear on one thing: Infiniti's Around View Monitor isn't pretty. With cameras mounted on each side of the car, its fish-eye, top-down view distorts any three-dimensional object nearby. But is it effective? You bet. With a 360-degree view of exactly what's around your car, it reduces getting into narrow parking spots and crowded alleys to a science. 4. Full-Size Hybrid SUVs/Trucks Where you can find it: Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Silverado, Chevrolet Tahoe, Chrysler Aspen, Dodge Durango, GMC Yukon To date, hybrid technology has graced only compact and midsize SUVs Sharing a new 2-Mode Hybrid system, several GM and Chrysler Group full size SUVs and a pickup truck deliver significant mileage gains -- if early estimates prove accurate. 5. Integrated Booster Seats Where you can find it: Volvo V70 This is one of those simple features that make so much sense you wonder why they're not present on more cars. In the new V70, the cushions of the outboard rear seats can easily be raised to one of two levels to better accommodate children, which means no more fumbling around with aftermarket booster seats. 6. Heartbeat Sensor Where you can find it: Volvo S80 Cars.com is dubious about the usefulness of a heartbeat sensor, but they were won over by the fact that such a futuristic feature is available in oday's cars. The heartbeat sensor, which Volvo says can help you determine if someone is lying in wait inside your car, is part of the S80 sedan's Personal Car Communicator fob that can also do other things, like tell you if your car is locked or unlocked up to about 300 feet away. 7. Easy Third-Row Access Where you can find it: Hyundai Veracruz Getting into the third row in SUVs has gotten progressively easier in recent years, but the Hyundai Veracruz has a three-step system that outshines the competition. Each part individually doesn't seem like much, but put all together it's a wonder no one else has thought of it. 8. Sirius Satellite TV Where you can find it: Chrysler minivans Any parent can tell you that one of the big drags about taking kids on long trips is all the stuff you've got to carry with you. Chrysler's new Sirius Satellite TV makes this a bit easier by removing your DVD collection from the list. Your kids can watch one of three channels (the Disney Channel, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network) on one or both of the rear swing-down screens. 9. Sync Hands-Free System Where you can find it: Various Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models Ford has addressed driver distraction with a voice activation system that takes the fumbling out of using cell phones and digital music players. Sync allows drivers to control Bluetooth phones and MP3 players and storage devices that have a USB input using simple voice commands -- it even reads text messages from compatible phones. 10. Volvo Blind Spot Information System Where you can find it: C30, S40, S80, V50, V70, XC70, XC90 Volvo prides itself on safety innovations, and this is the latest. The new S80, V70 and XC70 have an optional blind spot information system that alerts drivers to cars that are hard to spot using mirrors. Two cameras are attached to the side mirrors, and a pale orange light illuminates whenever changing lanes would lead to hitting someone in the dreaded blind spot. 08:21 - Tuesday, December 4, 2007National Geographic Channel explores the Chevrolet CorvetteThe National Geographic Channel’s popular Ultimate Factory Series will feature General Motors’ luxury sports car, the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and the Bowling Green Assembly plant in Kentucky, the car’s mother plant. The episode will have its premiere today, November 29 at the world’s leading scientific channel.
The Ultimate Factory series runs for one hour, and the show to explore the Chevrolet Corvette and the Bowling Green Assembly plant can be seen tonight at 10 pm. The shoot of the show started in April by the Michael Hoff Productions Inc. The production staff worked at GM’s Performance Build Center in Wixom, Michigan, the Milford Proving Grounds also in Michigan and at the Bowling Green Assembly. Some filming was also done at Pratt & Miller responsible for the C6 R Corvette and the Dana, which makes the Z06 frame. "More than 50,000 people each year get to visit Bowling Green to see Corvettes being built," said Wil Cooksey Jr., Bowling Green's plant manager. "While the tours are an incredible experience, the Ultimate Factories crew was able to capture a lot of the behind-the-scenes work that goes into making this great vehicle." The show will focus on the car as much as the people who build it. GM workers may take their spot to talk about their passion for bringing the world high-quality sports car through the Chevrolet Corvette that had been an icon in the world since it started production in 1953. "The passion our people have for the Corvette and other GM products is evident in their commitment to safety, quality and productivity," Cooksey added. "I credit our success to our great people who pay attention to the smallest details to make each vehicle the best of its kind." "The Corvette epitomizes the true American sports car," said Tom Wallace, GM's Global Vehicle Chief Engineer for Performance Vehicles. "Every model offers an outstanding balance of performance, daily driving comfort and value second to none." "The thrill of driving a Corvette is legendary," Wallace added. "People buy a Vette because it is an American icon that is not living off of its past, but offers the best in today's technology and performance. I wish every person could experience at least a ride, if not a drive, in a Corvette at least once in their life to see why." 03:43 - Thursday, November 29, 2007Dodge Charger becomes chief of Police CarsFord’s Crown Victoria’s reign as queen of police cars might be over and the Dodge Charger may be its successor. The Dodge Charger debuted in 2006 and with its looks, police cars may no longer be the average cars with sirens on their roofs but a sleek full-size vehicle. According to tests conducted by the federal government, the Charger has great speed and handling responsible for its 75,000 unit sales per year.
"We've been steadily gaining market share and acceptance for the police vehicle since its inception," said Chrysler LLC spokeswoman Shawn Morgan. "We see that trend continuing." 16 million car sales is the target of the automotive industry this year. Although not a very appealing marketing strategy for automakers, the position of being the police vehicles is important because it gives automakers the chance to test the usefulness of their vehicles. "That vehicle has to accommodate a bunch of requirements — it's an officer's first-aid station, comfort area for accident victims, command post for a crime scene. Next thing you know it's involved in a high-speed run, responding to a heart attack, chasing a criminal," said Lt. David Halliday, who leads the Michigan State Police's annual police vehicle tests that serve as a national standard for law enforcement. "We really ask (the automakers) to do an enduring duty for the public that's often underestimated," he said. Tests conducted by the police on 2008 model vehicles discovered that with the Charger’s 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine gave the fastest acceleration highest top speed and shortest braking distances. "Law enforcement has always liked good performance in a vehicle," Halliday said. "For example, the (5.7-liter) Charger has a top speed of (nearly) 150 mph. If you're in the market for a vehicle that has that kind of performance, that kind of vehicle will fit the bill." 03:54 - Tuesday, November 27, 2007
