It is very evident that the market for E85 flex-fuelled cars is flourishing at present. Saab, the leading supplier of flex-fuel cars in Europe, just delivered the 100,000th flex-fuel car in the Swedish market… the Saab 9-3 BioPower. Actually, Saab BioPower vehicles have been the major provider to Sweden’s foremost place in the control to renewable fuels within the European continent.

They have waited for seven years just to sell the first 300 flex-fuel cars in Sweden. There were 50,000 cars on the highways six years later. An extra 50,000 flex-fuel cars have been put up for sale throughout the last 15 months only. This only means that the market is indeed escalating. Fuel producers, retailers and carmakers have been a solid contributor to this accomplishment which was a combined approach between central and local government.

“In addition to the environmental factors, buying a flex-fuelled car offers many economical benefits. Tax reductions, no congestion charges and a lot of free parking certainly make a difference,” says Johan Bergstad, a private car buyer from Stockholm who recently became the owner of the 100,000th bioethanol car.

“Bioethanol is one of several solutions for a more sustainable future,” says Anna Langenius, Manager for BioPower at Saab. “The infrastructure is in place, the technology is established and we consider it to be the best solution available today to slow down the increase of CO2 in the atmosphere.”

“We know that consumers will gladly embrace new environmental technology as long as they are not penalized or inconvenienced for doing so,” concludes Anna Langenius.
