Nissan’s Intelligent Radar-Based Cruise Control System with the On-Board Navigation System

Nissan has recently launched an intelligent radar-based cruise control system integrated with the on-board navigation system that utilizes route information. This results to an Intelligent Cruise Control system that adjusts the vehicle speed in anticipation of an approaching curve. Then as the vehicle gets out of the curve into the straight road the system goes back to its original speed.

Another new feature is the Distance Control Assist that alerts the driver to slow down regardless of whether the accelerator is engaged while still enabling for the accelerator pedal to be push back alerting the driver to release the accelerator. In more serious situations, the system will also alert the driver by sending messages or audio warnings, urging the driver to apply the brakes.

The Intelligent Cruise Control system plus Distance Control Assist may be controlled separately through the steering wheel controls. The system has also the ability to operate in full speed range starting at zero as compared to previous intelligent radar based systems that have speed limitations in the range of 5 to 100km/h.

With both the Distance Control Assist and Intelligent Cruise Control installed, the driver is given the option to select either function setting, using a wheel-mounted switch based on the different driving conditions.
