A great rap video on the Hadron Collider that almost blew up the planet the other day

"You can put Kate McAlpine in a giant particle accelerator 300 feet underground. You can even put her in a rap video. Just don't put her in a box.

She tips the hat to her dad, who was annoyed by the results of her career aptitude test in high school that sought to place her in a particular field.

"They're trying to put you in a box," she recalls her father saying. But they didn't succeed. (Read: her dual degree from Michigan State University in professional writing and physics and an excerpt from her personal statement. "I have pitched my camp at a crossroads: the intersection of science and writing.")"

 This is our camp.

Fredericksburg, VA

We're here for a couple weeks, so we toured the Fredericksburg Battlefield.  Four major battles between Lee and Hooker/Grant took place here.  The exhibits called it the bloodiest ground in North America.  I wonder what Mexico's ancient Aztecs would have made of that claim?

I'll continue to update this site, including our drive back to CO.

Memorial weekend camping trip

I forgot tent stakes, so we improvised with a tarp.  It withstood some serious wind that night.

These were the views around our campsite.

Now it's off to Territory Days for some first class people watching and bratwurst consumption.
