The success that Craigslist has achieved in providing a free outlet where people from all over the world can meet and transact their various businesses cannot go unnoticed. Though many people would profess on how useful this site has been in meeting their needs either to buy or sell, there are critics who question its existence altogether.
Craigslist has been the target of a local mayor in Atlanta that wants to hold the popular website responsible for the proliferation of child prostitution on the Internet. This was picked up by the New York Times when it placed Craigslist on its headline tying it up with the rise in the cases of Internet prostitution. Of particular interest was Craigslist� Erotic Section where the forces of the Nassau County Police Department are claimed to be conducting sex sting operations. Posing either as a responding party or placing a bogus ad, the police officers are making arrests counting up to 70 since they began. Logging on to Craigslist seems to be a more effective way for the law enforcers rather than patrolling the streets.
There are those who defend the use of Craigslist as the fault could not be entirely placed on its shoulder as using the Internet likewise calls for responsible posting of advertisements.

Craigslist provide support through education. Craig's List motto is "Providing knowledge, resources and visibility to the next generation of nonprofit leaders." Craigslist does not take sides. Craigslist’s role is to help people connect and achieve their goal of helping and transforming communities.
Craiglist collaborated with the Red Cross and with the Salvation Army to put up the Hurricane Relief summit when hurricane Katrina hit the United States.
