Greetings From Dawson

Day 17

Day 17 and the end is nowhere in sight. The temperature is supposed to be rising throughout the week until the low is -9 on Friday. That’s no good at all.

.My play date on Saturday went really well though it left me totally exhausted. We read stories, played drums (along with harmonica and kazoo and various shaker-type instruments); we jumped on the bed; we made fart jokes and did alphabet burps (I totally failed on both accounts), and we played with my telescope and microscope and looked at an astronomy program that I have to see what stars are in our night sky right now. Over all, we had a very good time and I slept more soundly that night than I have in years. I couldn’t have 3 little boys aged 6-8 full time. I’m too old for that.

Yesterday was less eventful-I did chores, including washing my hair and doing laundry, and did schoolwork. This morning however, has been much more exciting. For those of you who don’t already know: IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!!! I’ll be 32 just before midnight tonight. I woke up feeling sad…well, cause it was the 17th time in a row I’ve woken up alone and also it’s my birthday. But then I turned on the computer and there were so many messages. Thanks everybody! And then I set up skype and my webcam and talked to Scott, face-to-face (or as close as we can get right now) for about a half hour. It was very romantic, having reminded us of when we first met and he lived so far away from me. The rest of my day should prove to be exciting too. I’m waiting for a helicopter (it’s pretty overcast this morning) to arrive with fresh food and more chocolate (a girl can never have enough chocolate). And this evening I’m having some friends over for sushi and games. It will be fun.

Hope you all are less bored than I am. We’re due for some excitement anytime now, I’m sure.

Description
This is a blog for friends and family and those who always wanted a northern adventure. For those of you who are new here: Lynne and Scott departed Edmonton, AB the summer of 2005 in their camper van with bikes on front, canoe on top, and Beetle pulled behind. Their destination: Dawson City, Yukon. Home of the Klondike Gold Rush. We've been here ever since. Loving every minute of it. Even the long, dark winters where temps reach -40 C and colder. Soon we will embark on a new adventure: we are purchasing some land "off of the grid" and building our dream cabin in the woods where we hope to spend the rest of our days. If you'd like to get up to speed you can visit our defunct blog at greetingsfromdawson.blogspot.com. Thanks for sharing our northern experience.
