Maggie's Musings

Tuesday, October 30, 2007 - HBHW has a new owner

Hey Yall

I wanted to let everyone know that HBHW has changed hands and has a new owner named Susanne.

HBHW has been a labor of love for about 8 years and my time as it's owner has come to an end. I will still be an online presence, at my homeschooling site Old Fashioned Education, here at my Blog (which I hope to pick up again soon) and also at a new site I hope to have up and running in the next few weeks, or at least by January 1st, hopefully before then. I'm not exactly sure what the new name will be but will share it on my blog, my mom's blog and at OFED as soon as I know.

The new owner of Hillbilly Housewife is named Susanne. Her email is susanne@kinderinfo.com. She is already the owner of one site called Kinderinfo. She's a lovely woman, solid Christian with a heart for serving other mothers. She and I have prayed individually and together about this process and we both feel firmly that we are doing the will of God.

I know many readers will be disappointed but I hope you will treat Susanne with the affection and loyalty you have always shown to me. You have probably noticed that I've been much less active here and on HBHW this year than ever before. Part of this is due to the extra demands of homeschooling highschoolers. Part of it is because I have lost a bit of the inspirational spark that I felt for HBHW in the early years. Susanne assures me she will have new content to share, which I know all of you will look forward to, especially after I've made you all endure such long absences. In addition she will keep all the current content so your favorite articles and recipes aren't going anywhere. They'll still be there for you to use and print as you like.

Susanne has my full confidence in her ability to take over HBHW and lead it to the next place the Lord needs it to go. I hope you'll take the time to get to know her better and to offer her congratulations on her new duties.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask, I will do my best to answer them here.

Hugs & Blessings
:-) Maggie

Hi Ms. Maggie,

I never got a chance to say hello. I actually found your blog through homemakers homestead when looking for homemade laundry detergent recipes. A poster called "hillbillyhousewife" had some of the greatest ideas, and I looked her up. It was Suzanne! I was a little confused about the name until now :) I snooped around this site and I also really like your blog. My favorite post was on making your own feminine pads. "At heart I am a rebel... modern consumerism is a crock" I couldn't agree more! I'm always looking for ways to end my ties with corporations driven by greed and lack community involvement. Because of you, I'm saving my money for a grain mill. Even though I'm a Californian transplant living in Boston going to grad school, we have a lot in common and I really admire what you do. I hope you enjoy your "retirement" Ms. Maggie. Take care,

Amy

I will miss you greatly, but I understand the need to move on to new things. I hope that everything is going well in your life and school year. Highschoolers would be hard! :) I have a few years to go before I face that. I am sure that the new owner of HBHW will do a great job. I look forward to reading the new recipes and advice. You have truly been an inspiration to me, and I have a lot of respect and admiration for you. God bless you in all of your current and future endeavors.

I'm very disappointed, but I understand you have other things going on in your life. I wish that you were able to occasionally come back and perhaps make comments. I think a lot of us have gotten to feel like we know you like a family member, and it will be hard (at least for me) to think of someone else managing this site. I am not one who likes change very much :-(

Magge, you are the one I found about 6 years ago that led me down the Christian/frugal path. You took me under your wing on your pink message board and for that I will be forever grateful to you. I wish you the best in all that you take on. You have been a blessing to so many women, God knew just who to send into our lives.

I understand the need for change. I will miss you here! But I welcome Susanne! Best wishes for you both. Glad to hear the old recipes will still be available! On a sad note, the link to "HomekeeperatHeart" (on your blog) says it is a private blog now, invitation only. :( I LOVED her blog....she was such a down to earth, inspiring Christian LADY! I would come away from her blog and feel like I could do something around the house! I was away for a bit, and when I came back, could no longer read it. blessings~mrsroyer

Miss Maggie, I want you to know that I am so thankful for all that you have done and shared over the years. I am so thankful for your responses to my questions, your kindness and generosity. You have been such a blessing to me over the years. I am saddened by this, a little lump in my throat forms, but nothing stays the same. We all have to move on to other things at certain points in our lives.
I make a recipe from your site weekly, and many times, daily. I send people to hbhw all of the time. I will welcome the owner and I wish you all of the best.
Thank you for sharing so much of yourself with us over the years.

Saturday, November 10, 2007 - Why is there ads?

Posted by Anonymous
I am upset that once HBHW changed hands, ads were instantly put on the page. I have my on webpage and it doesn't cost me much per year, even though I'm sure you get much more traffic. I think at least all the flash ads should be removed.

Well, I guess all things move and change, and so it goes. But ... always sad to see familiar landscapes change their shape. Sometimes, after a very long time, it can become hard to find one's way back home.

Good luck Susanne ... such big shoes to fill. Maggie must have the greatest confidence in you. As always, I'll drop by here from time to time.

for the ones upset about the ads now on hillbilly housewife.... it does cost to run a site that gets thousands of hits a day. the ads are done in taste, they don't look bad at all. i have pondered for a long time how miss maggie was able to keep afloat without any money coming in to help pay for the site. miss maggie did a wonderful job with the site, and suzanne will too. as for as suzanne saying she is the creator of the site, she just tweaked the copy and put her name in place of miss maggie's and hasn't gotten around to tweaking the entire section. it's a huge site, give her a little time and i am sure it will be great.......

I know the site has been taken over by Suzanne, but it would be nice to know more about Suzanne...I notice the last update was almost a month ago...I worry as I just really don't want this site to go away, or change too much. It has meant so much to so many people.

It's been a while since I've been on this site and decided to look for some new recipes and I was blown away by all the added recipes. I have been using the powdered milk and making rice mixes and using your recipes and it has saved me a lot of money. I also homeschool and with the gas prices and groceries going up this has really helped. Aslo my son and people at my church love the chocolate pudding. Sometimes I put Splenda in it when I take it to church for people who are diabetic.

Thanks a lot.
