Get your homemade ice cream recipes book and write this down:

Basic Vanilla Ice Cream

Ingredients:

    * 1 pint of Half & Half*
    * 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla
    * 1/3 cup + 2 tablespoons sugar
    * 1/2 cup of rock salt
...Huh? What? Read on:

"With the Play & Freeze Ice Cream Maker, there's no need for electricity. Just add ice and rock salt in one end and ice cream mix in the other end-then have a ball as you shake it, pass it or roll it. The ice cream mix can be as simple as cream, sugar and vanilla, but the foot work on the ball is all you."

How cool is that! :) You'll have to see it to believe it, but basically you put your ice cream ingredients into one end of this funny looking ball, and the ice and rock salt (don't ask me why)

into the other. This neat contraption makes ice cream making process even more fun! Not that I'd use it every day, but you get to play with your kids and later eat from your toy.

"I've tried a lot of different homemade ice cream recipes, but this one always stands out as my family's favorite! This old-time ice cream recipe was actually my great-great-grandmother's recipe.

5     eggs
3     cups sugar
2     tablespoons flour
2     (12 ounce) cans evaporated milk
1     tablespoon vanilla
whole milk

1. Beat egg yolks with half of sugar and all of flour. Mix until creamy. Add evaporated milk then add rest of sugar and vanilla.
2. Beat egg whites until fairly stiff. Fold into above mixture. Put in ice cream freezer and add whole milk, leaving about 1 1/2 inches at top of freezer.
3. Freeze in ice cream freezer. Makes 1 gallon."

Now this ain't mine, I just stumbled upon Susan's recipe here. What sparked my interest is that, when you think about it... the best food, meals, sweets... the best ever... is what you ate in you childhood. That magical taste never fades,

and is always there for us, for the rest of our lives.

If you have some great homemade ice cream recipes please post them here. If you don't, this great book will help you find some great ice cream recipes. It's real easy to follow, even if you're not good at cooking.
