John 2:19 - Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." John 2:20 - The Jews therefore said, "Forty-six years was this temple in building, and will you raise it up in three days?" John 2:21 - But he spoke of the temple of his body. John 2:22 - When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he said this, and they believed the Scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.
Many believe that this scripture is saying that Jesus raised himself from the dead. If we read it closely, however, we can see that Jesus did not say anything about raising himself from the dead, but he does refer to the raising of "the temple of his body." Jesus did, indeed, raise his body for the appearance to his disciples in the locked room, on the third day after his being put to death. (Luke 24:36-49; John 20:19,20) However, this was after he had been raised from the dead as a spirit being by his God and Father. -- Acts 2:24,32,26; 3:15; 4:10; 10:40; 13:30,33,37; 17:31; Romans 4:24; 8:11; 10:9; 1 Corinthians 6:14; 15:15; Galatians 1:1; Colossians 2:11,12; 1 Thessalonians 1:9,10; 1 Peter 1:21; 3:18. what are your thoughts on this particular passage and the mission of some Protestant, Catholics, Orthodox and Jews, to rebuild the Temple of Jerusalem (Solomon's Temple) in the old city on TempleMount where the Dome of the Rock currently is ? Just a thought- but I remember a course in college speaking about this particular statement, where "three biblical years" would pass and eventually, the Great Temple would replace the Mosque of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem- interested to hear your thoughts.

Last Built Temple
Often when trying to ascertain the details of future events, our surmisings, conclusions and expectations of how certain scriptures should be fulfilled turn out to be different than what God actually brings into fulfillment. If we become so absorbed in a certain expectation, we might miss comprehending the reality when it does come. This is what happened to Jewish majority when Jesus came, for he did not fit their expectations at all.
Whether God will have a temple rebuilt in Jerusalem or not, I don't know. I would wonder what its purpose would be. Possibly, he will have such a temple built, as a sign for the nations (heathen, gentiles).
If men build such a temple, without the spirit of God, then it would still be permitted only if God would allow it.
It is possible, however, that the last temple of God to be "built" is the spiritual temple made up of living stones. (1 Corinthians 3:16,17; Ephesians 2:21; 1 Peter 2:5) Once this temple is completed with its head, Jesus, it will be the priesthood in the age to come (Revelation 1:6) between God and Man until eventually all things are returned to God (1 Corinthians 15:28), so then Jesus and God will be the temple. -- Revelation 21:22.
Whether men construct a temple in Jerusalem or not, I am not sure what such a temple would accomplish, without a convenant. I believe the temple that serves the new covenant is that temple made up of living stones. -- 2 Corinthians 3:6.
A new temple certainly could not be used by covenant for sacrifice and offerings for sin, since Jesus did that for us, so that now there remains no more sacrifice for sin. -- Hebrews 9:28; 10:12,26.
Time permitting, I might start a separate blog on Israel and the fulfillment of prophecy.
Yours in Christ,
Ronald
