I think that professional poker players really should take a look at what they are wearing before they head out the door. The fashion at the poker tables can be really poor, with no sense for the glamour to the game. Sure, poker is fun to watch, and play, anyway, but sometimes I wish that there would be a stricter dress code to the high rooms of poker playing.
Some of the best players in the world wear track suits or old t-shirts, when they could have been wearing blazers or beautiful dresses. They surely could afford to anyway, but for some reason they don’t seem to find it tempting. Fine, I could see why they would want to put all of their focus on the game and not on their appearance. But what is the point of being that famous and recognized if you are just going to look like a gas station clerk?
At least there are a few women who know how to dress up when the occasion calls for it, and one of those women are Lacey Jones. She always looks dressed up and nice at the tournaments, as does Annie Duke. The two women’s styles differ somewhat though – while Lacey Jones has a flirtatious, very female way of dressing, Annie Duke looks more professional and proper.
I think that the main point is to take notice to the fact that it is a fancy event and to acknowledge that. The kind of dress or suit that you wear is less important.
Another really handsome poker player is Gus “The great Dane” Hansen. That man can really dress and he is never caught looking sloppy! I understand why the Danish ladies miss him now that he lives in Monaco… I would too.
Maybe a solution to the dressing problem would be if sponsors took into accounting that their brand would look even better on a slick shirt than on a loose t-shirt. If the players themselves don’t take responsibility for their appearance then at least their financers should…
Not that it would ever be realized, but if I was famous enough in the world of poker I would take the opportunity to dazzle some. How often do you get to wear a dress anyway? I would really seize the chance when I got it, and show the other poker players how the glamorous dressing is done. And I don’t think that it would affect my game a bit. Hopefully it would affect the others dressing though… |
