Ponies and Pixie Dust

The Sewing Projects....

Ive taken a short break from the watercolors, pencils and acrylics. A short break I may add.

The sewing projects have accumulated so much that I need to really get sewing to bring it down. One of the things I made over the holidays was a Godey's Lady cloth doll including her ball gown and bonnet as a present for my daughter. Which then inspired me to make another, but transform it into a cloth faerie doll. To which I haven't finished yet. Im down to the costume, and I still haven't figured out exactly what I want to make for a costume for it.

I have also begun sewing some more Civil War era period clothing, and so far that has taken me the longest. Since I haven't done one in several years, and need to re-educate myself on the process of sewing them.

I do hope to post some new stuff. I am looking to join a local art association and an upcoming jury selection for it is in February. To which I do hope I will be accepted in.

The Gallery......

Im in the process of joining our local art gallery. I am excited about it. That I am finally getting back into to the realm of the art world again on a more professional level. I haven't been there since we moved and honestly didn't know where to start or go.

Members are juried in four times a year, with the next juried event being in February. I just had missed the last one. But this is a good thing, since now it gives me a chance to freshen up my artists statement and look over what pieces I want. Since we can enter up to five pieces.

With that said, figureing now that I have until February, that perhaps this would be a fine time for me to finish up what I have already started in paintings. Or, dreadfully start a new one. I say dreadfully because of the fact I have a few already started that need finishing. If I had all finished, then starting a new one would be good!!

I've got a nice watercolor of two horses grazing, which I think I might submit. But again, its one of the few that I have to finish. I guess its time to get cracking!!

WIP...................

I will be quite honest with you, and tell you that I don't have much to relate. Mainly due to my overloaded brain functionality. Not enough caffiene? Plenty of work, and feeling like not enough time in the day to get it done?

Anyway, I wanted to share this work in progress with you. Somewhat inspired by my Diamond Faerie I posted the last time. This is a large watercolor that I am doing. The background I did using a very unqiue technique which I will not devulge at the moment. But quite easy to do!! hee hee.

I am also in the process of several other pieces and illustrations for my wearable art quilted handbags. To which I am gleefully and happily to say, are picking up quite well. Orders are coming in!!  I've been requested for black Quarter Horses, Arabians, Paints, and even unicorns!!

I guess I have a paintbrush in one hand, and the other hand is at the sewing machine!!

Diamond in the Rough.....

I'm finally getting the feel of how my faeries should be. They would come out good, but there would always be something not just right about them.  So here I created my latest with the new style wings. Which I like much better!! This piece is called "Diamond in the Rough" and she ain't quite finished. I have a little bit more work to do on her wings and outfit.  My plan is to scan it, and heat transfer it onto fabric to incorporate into one of my quilted handbags.

Actually, she came out so well I decided to make a larger rendition of her, with some slight changes onto Strathmore watercolor paper and I am painting her in watercolors. Will post when finished!

The Flower Faerie.......

I just finished creating this new piece, The Flower Faerie. Unfortunatly my scanning abilities are a bit lacking and I need to practice that a bit more.  The watercolor paper I used was not an expensive paper, and that in itself was a mistake.  But overall, the piece came out really well.

This eventually will be rescanned, and transfered onto a special paper that I can then transfer onto fabric.  I am working on my faerie bag collection, and hope to upload pics sooner than later of them.

Otherwise, I've been keeping quite busy. Ask Wink, she'll tell you!  Between orders for beaded jewelry, several paintings in the works, and the handbags I am quite busy.

New Beginnings..............

Well, today I finally got a start. I think. After completeing my first wholesale order of earrings and beaded bracelets, I began painting out a sketch of one of my Epona Ponies and a faerie.  I managed to complete most of the background using a unique technique. Which at the moment I wont devulge. But its a start anyway.

Then this afternoon, I get a call from a friend of mine who ordered the wholesale jewelry, and told me that it was such a hit she wants more! YIKES!! This is a good thing. So off I'll go to start beading away that order along with painting what I need to paint.

I spent two and a half hours last night at the church working on the mural. And that is finally coming along well.  About ninety percent of the base colors are finally done. Hurrah!! This means I can start in on the detailed stuff, which is what I really like doing. It's taking shape and form.

New beginnings are great! I finally feel that things are moving along now with my artwork and my jewelry.  I haven't even thought about my quilted handbags. Nor the sewing I need to do. I guess that will come in time.

Ever Hear of the Uniasus?

Ever hear of the Uniasus? Well, let me tell you a tale of the mythical uniasus. What's that? You don't believe they exsist? Well, my friend I can tell you quite honestly that they do. My friend Wink told me so.A long long time ago, across the fog swept moors lived a Goddess named Epona. Yes, she is the same Epona of the Epona Ponies. Now, all these mythical and beautiful creatures Epona Ponies belonged to her. They were magical horses of hers, some no bigger than grass blades, and others yet, as big a very large housecat.

Well, Epona one day had one very special ponie of hers and to make sure that it wasn't confused as part of the rest of the herd, she made him different. And because he was different, made him all the more special. And all the more special that he was, meant the more the evil Troll Vulg would want him.

Why did the Troll want the Epona Ponies? For the simple fact, thier magic. The very same magic that Epona had, these ponies had.  So when the evil Troll Vulg found out that Epona had a very special ponie he knew that ponie was even more so important to him and he wanted him.

To ensure that this special ponie had some extra protection, in case the Goddess Epona could not be there to protect him. Or the countless number of faeries that were good and looked over the ponies. Epona gave this one ponie special features. A magical golden horn that had much power. And beautiful wings to carry him away in a pinch for a quick escape.

Now the horn itself, was also greatly wanted by the Troll Vulg, because if anyone evil of heart, had been struck directly in the middle of thier heart by this golden horn, it meant that it was the end for them. So Vulg quite immensly feared Epona's new creature, the Uniasus.

Painted Ponies...............

So this morning I am shuffling through my "to do" stuff figuring out what I needed to do next, or for a lack of better words, figure out what I felt like doing.  I had a pile of fabric that I had cut out for some of my new handbags, and a box of beads I just bought for an order of bracelets and earrings that the Band Boosters want. Not to mention the two watercolor paintings I have started but yet to finish. One is of what else, horses and I plan on using that on my website.  Which reminds me, I have to find another art show to get myself into.

Well, my little friend Wink this morning reminded me as well, that she still has yet to tell me the story of the Epona Ponies. The mythical little horses in vast array of beautiful colors. Even some with strange looking blankets on them.  "You mean like Appaloosa's, " I asked.
"Yes," she replied, "like Appaloosas. Except they are of the upmost intriguing color schemes that you can see."
"Really," I replied, "tell me more."
Wink gathered herself up and most graciously sat herself down on top of my pincushion. Don't worry, I had no pins in it.  And while I finished cutting out pattern pieces to my handbags, I listened to Wink tell me all about the painted ponies.

"See," she said, "mortal Appaloosa horses usually are browns, or blacks with a white blanket on thier backsides. With their spots splattered across the white."
"Yes," I said, "those are blanket Appaloosas. What about the leapord Appaloosas."
Wink now had grabbed herself one of my bobbins and began using it as a footstool. "Well, yes those are the horses that are a solid color with spots all over. The Epona Ponies have both, except the colors may not be brown and white blanket, or all white with specks and spots of black. You might find one that is purple, with a white blanket and an array of colored spots.  Or one that is all black with an array of colors splashed throughout its coat." Wink now stood up from the pincushion and stretched her arms out far and wide above her head. Which was greatly mopped with cascades of shimmering green hair.

"Interesting," I said to her, "I think I wouldn't mind seeing some of those! Especially the black with the splash of colors." Then it got me thinking, why yes, Wink had done it again.  "Thank you Wink!"

"What for?" she asked. Such a incredible little friend she is.

"You know, your inspiration." And I gave Wink a little wink. Its back to the painting easel once again. But not to finish those two paintings I've already started, but to start yet another.

A Lesson in Pixie Dust..................

Did you ever come across pixie dust?  Well, according to a tiny miniscul friend of mine, by the name of Wink, pixie dust can be a lethal and dangerous thing in the wrong hands.

"How so?" I asked my little winged friend, "does it really matter?"

"Yes," she replied, sitting herself down quiet comfortably upon the corner of my desk one afternoon. "You see, " she continued, "in the right hands it can bring many good things. For we know how to use it as good prevails. Those whose intentions are evil, with a evil heart, only brings on castrophic results from using pixie dust. It all depends on the heart of the holder of the dust!"

Now I understood. But I inquired as to why she was telling me this. Afterall, I am mere mortal and have no pixie dust. So it wouldn't do me any good.  But Wink reassured me that it did have something to do with me, and what had been happening to me. See of late, I've been quite busy to the point that I have several projects going and working late into the wee hours of the morning. Painting horses, faeries (yes, Wink is my inspiration there) and other mythical creatures.  I told her how blessed I was by God, for He gave me such a wonderful talent.

"Yes," she replied, "He has!"
"Why Wink..........you surprise me? I didn't think you believed in God?"
Wink giggled at my statement. "God is creator of all. He even created me!"

I sat in thought for a moment, thinking hard about that. I didn't know God created little creatures such as faeries.  But then again, this world is so vast and far and wide. Like the universe is too. I suppose it is possible.

"You see," she said as a matter of factly, "that is where pixie dust plays in." Wink stood up and stretched her wings out. "When I said about it being in the wrong hands................it works wonders for those who are of true spirit and pure of heart. Those who truely believe in HIM. That pixie dust is not just magical dust, as some may perceive it to be, but blessings!"

Hmmmm............I thought. Interesting. I thanked Wink for her little educational lesson on pixie dust.  I suppose I'll never look at blessings the same way. "Thank you Wink!"

With that, she gathered herself up, and stood up. "Well, " she said, "perhaps tomorrow I'll come by and tell you more about the Epona Ponies." And she gave me a little wink, and off she went.
