Camping

The most despicable and dishonourable method of cheating in CSS is no other than "camping", pitching tent at a location where you can ambush or surprise your opponent. Very effective if used properly, a welcome change from rushing. Some players are lazy to check their flanks or usual camping spots. You can score a cheap easy kill. But beware, once your position is comprimised you better haul ass outahere. Use flashbangs or HE grenades to clear out possible camping spots. Then proceed with caution. Seasoned experienced players will always check their flanks and rear constantly to avoid being backstabbed or knifed (the worst humiliation).

This is how your vision changes from being flashed to not being flashed. The before pic shows that the player is recovering from the flashbang (slightly blinded). The after pic shows that the player is fully recovered from the flashbang (normal vision). This is a new map called de_doomhouse. It is similar to cs_assault and cs_office, with plenty of open ground for sniping and enclosed areas for CQB combat. A welcome change from eternal repetitive endless de_dust2.

CSS Sprays

These are just some of the creative sprays that I have encountered on my CSS journeys. Some are obscene, sexy, dirty, provocative, while others are creative. Sprays are sometimes used to distract the enemy, but most of the time players spray on their vanquished foes. I have yet to design my own spray, so for the moment I am using the CSS custom sprays (bullseye). Many a times I have seen a crowd of players admiring or ogling a spray being killed as an end result, absolutely hilarious.

Euro 2008 Qualifiers - England vs Israel

The match started at 12 midnight, but I arrived at the coffeeshop 30 minutes late. There were 3 football fans watching the match by the time I got there, plus two tables of students at the other end. Positioned myself in front of the overhead TV set and ordered a drink. The first goal had already been scored by Shaun Wright-Philips by the time I got there. Lampard, Hargreaves, and Rooney were missing. Thankfully Joe Cole and Gerrard were playing. Joe Cole was brilliant, creating many chances for England. Owen and Heskey led the English attack. England dominated the game with most of the possession. Terry was the English captain and he coordinated the back 4 well. Early in the second half, Owen scored the second goal. Then towards the middle of the second half, Micah Richards scored the third goal. England's 4-4-2 midfield diamond formation paid handsome dividends. The Israeli goalkeeper did a magnificent job saving all the English shots at goal. Steve McClaren's team have done England proud. Let's hope England will produce the same performance with Guus Hiddick's Russia. Absolutely brilliant performance by England this morning. I give them 80%. Imagine if Lampard, Hargreaves, and Rooney were playing as well, England would be unstoppable. Well done England!

The Simpsons Movie - Finally (I watched it)!

After 18 seasons (years) of The Simpsons, the big movie is finally out. It was out a month ago, but I only just recently watched it. I felt that the movie was pretty short, too short for my liking compared to other animation movies, but they managed to pack all the jokes in. The movie could have been longer. Is there a sequel (Part 2)? There are references to Charlotte's Web, The Animatrix The Second Rennonaise Part 2, some full frontal nudity, love interest, bully's mum, government agency, the Californian governor, swine, a lesson in physics (momentum), Alaska, gay police officers, grand theft auto, eskimoe, linux, red indians, springfield gorge, bomb defuser, plus plenty more. All the familiar characters are back, except for Mrs Krabapple and Marge's two sisters. Once again Homer is up to no good and always does something wrong, like he is jinxed or something. But he manages to save Springfield from eternal doom. Homer kinda reminds me of Kenny from Southpark. But Kenny always dies in the end, but he died for a good reason in the Southpark movie. Overall I give it 90%. You have to watch it at least twice to "get" it.

Beacon of (Red) Light

The admin play a practical joke on us. We were turned into blinking red beacons that broadcast our location to the enemy. Hee hee it was really hilarious to be running around with a red blinking beacon emanating from our bodies. These are actually penalities for killing a teammate, whether accidentally (friendly fire) or purposely (which will get your banned from the server). Possible penalities include time bomb, freeze bomb, beacon bomb, fire bomb and instant ban. People who try to cheat (wall hacking) will get themselves banned eternally from your favourite server. Don't even try, Valve Anti Cheat (VAC) is the eye in the sky.

CSS Distraction

I've seen a couple of these in the past, but I didn't get the chance to screenshot them. This spray is actually moving (GIF), so it appears as if you are looking at a real crouching CT. You only need to be distracted for a few seconds before you are killed by the real T. Technically these sprays should be banned because they pose a real distraction. But whoever came out with this clever idea is certainly very creative. This spray could be used as a CSS tactic, if placed at the appropriate location such as major chokepoints.

Gone in 30 seconds

Recently there is a sudden surge of criminal activity in Johor Bahru, Peninsular Malaysia. Recently in the news, a man was pumping petrol at the Mobile service station along Jalan Wong Ah Fook (opposite the Immigration checkpoint and next to the police station). It was around 3 am in the early morning. He was walking back to his car after making payment when suddenly a car came up alongside him. One man got out of the car and viciously attacked him with a parang. He tried to protect himself from the parang blows and got sliced in the neck and fingers. The attacker got into his car and drove off in his Honda Civic while the other man drove off in his own car. It was all over in 30 seconds, very fast and very efficient. People rushed to help the victim who was bleeding profusely from the neck and fingers. Somebody called an ambulance. The victim was rushed to Hospital Sultanah Aminah where he underwent six hours of emergency surgery and received more than twenty stiches on his neck alone.

After reading about this incident, I am concerned about my own safety and well-being. Now I am extra vigilant when pumping petrol, always on the look out for suspicious characters even in broad daylight. Ultimately your life is more important than your possessions. If possible try to pump petrol within close proximity to your fellow motorists and pump at appropriate hours (not dead in the middle of the night) to reduce your chances of being a potential robbery victim. If you are robbed, just give them what they want rather than try to fight back which could make things worse (they may carry a gun and will not hesitate to use it). Another solution is to improve the security of petrol stations by employing security guards as a deterrent. Or one could learn some basic self-defense to protect yourself from knife injury. There should also be more police patrols in crime-infested areas such as Jalan Wong Ah Fook and Taman Molek. The police officers should carry assault rifles or submachineguns which will be used if the need arises.

I was playing CSS on a local server, playing on the map cs_office_extended or cs_office_tactik (can't remember the actual name). Upon spawning at the CT spawn zone, I realised I was stuck with another player. I had to kill the other person to free myself from his clutches. Apparently there is a spawn bug in the map as it is not the official cs_office which causes two players to be randomly stuck at the same time. After some complaining by my fellow CSS players, the admin changed the map to something else.

Uncle's Passing

Location: St Ignatius Church/Mandai Crematorium/NUS KRGH

My uncle recently passed away. I was shocked upon hearing the news of his sudden passing. The last time I saw him was last December during a BBQ gathering at our place. He looked fit and happy at that time, very jovial and a joker. He liked to drink beer and make jokes. He was my mother¡¯s elder brother. He has left behind his wife and three children. His eldest daughter is married with a son.

I attended the church ceremony at St Ignatius Church on early Saturday morning. My mum and cousins gave their eulogies to the listening audience. It was a very emotional event for all of us. My cousin broke down in tears while giving his eulogy. He was very sad that his father passed away because he was not at his bedside before passing. There was hardly a dry eye in the audience. After the service, my uncle¡¯s casket was brought to a waiting van which brought the body to the Mandai crematorium. We then made our way to the Mandai crematorium. There was another short service before we laid flowers on the casket and had a final glimpse of our dear uncle. Then the casket was transported to the crematorium room on a motorized track.

There was a short reception after that where drinks were served. Then we made our way to NUS Kent Ridge Guild House for a buffet lunch. It was an informal gathering of my uncle¡¯s friends and relatives. We had a good time catching up on old times. Some relatives that I never met before were introduced to me. I also met some of my uncle¡¯s friends. It was really a sudden passing for all of us.

My deepest sympathies and condolences to my uncle¡¯s family. He will always have a special place in our hearts. He will always be remembered for his kindness and generosity.

Nasi Berani

I had dinner at the Al Ahmin Nasi Berani store along Cheong Chin Nam Rd (the row of shophouses and eateries). Cheong Chin Nam Rd is located opposite Beauty World Centre and Bukit Timah Shopping Centre, near Bukit Batok. There is ample coupon parking nearby. The whole row of eateries includes Five Star Hainanese Chicken Rice and Boon Tong Kee Chicken Rice.

Upon parking my car along Tham Soong Ave, I took a stroll to the restaurant. It was drizzling that time and I didn¡¯t have an umbrella, so I was half soaked by the time I reached there. A waiter took my order of Nasi Berani beef and teh tarik. This restaurant is usually frequented by Malays and Indians because of the rich Malay and Indian food offered there. They also sell roti prata, mee goreng, and tandoori chicken with chapatti or nun and green sauce. The food soon arrived and I tucked in. One bowl of Nasi Berani with beef, some papadam and some mixed vegetables. I must admit the beef was a bit hard to chew, may have been slightly uncooked, but still tasted good. The beef curry really goes well with the beef and rice.

The funny thing was I didn¡¯t have any Singapore currency with me when paying for the food, so I had to withdraw money from the ATM. I left my camera bag with the cashier just in case. SGD3.80 for Nasi Berani beef and SGD1.00 for teh tarik, quite affordable. There¡¯s another store along Sixth Ave which also sells Nasi Berani, but for only SGD3.50 for similar portions. The Sixth Ave store sells out pretty early, you cannot go there too late otherwise you will be forced to buy mee goreng instead!

I give it 80%. Nice ambience, open air atmosphere, affordable, decent portions, smoking area, beef could have been cooked more thoroughly, friendly waiters, good service, short food waiting time, very efficient. It can get quite crowded at night for dinner and supper. Good place to have a cup of coffee or tea and catch up with your friends.
